The Jacobite Connection
The relationship between Arabella Churchill, whose mother was the daughter of John Drake of Ashe, and King James II brought the the titles of Earl Waldgrave, Baron Radstock, and Duke of Berwick, among others, to Drake descendants, as well as carrying the family bloodline into many noble Spanish families.

She was the (1) mistress of King James II circa 1665.
She married (2) Colonel Charles Godfrey after 1674.

She was buried on 7 Apr 1730 in Church, Navestock, Essex, England.
She married Henry Waldegrave, 1st Baron Waldegrave of Chewton on 29 November
1683.
She married Piers Butler, 3rd Viscount of Galmoye on 3 April 1695. She died
on 3 April 1730. She was buried on 7 April 1730 at Navestock, Essex, England.

He married Mary Webbe, daughter of Sir John Webbe, 3rd Bt., in 1714. His male line descendants have continued and include
the present title holder, James Sherbrooke Waldegrave, The 13th Earl Waldgrave.
A cadet branch of this family included the Waldegrave barony of Radstock of Castledown, extinct in 1953 at the death of the 5th and last baron.
7. James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Duque de Liria y Xérica, Grandee of Spain, etc,was born on 21 Aug 1670 in Moulins, Allier, France.
He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire in 1687/88. In 1690 he was attainted, and subsequently forfeited his English titles. He fought in the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, on his father’s side. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1693 in the service of the French Army and was naturalized as a French citizen on 17 December 1703. He held the office of Marshal of France in 1706 and fought in the Battle of Almanza on 25 April 1707.
He was invested as a Knight of the Golden Fleece after April 1707 and was invested as a Knight of Holy Ghost in 1724. He was created 1st Duque de Liria y Xerica [Spain] on 16 October 1707 and 1st Duc de FitzJames [France] on 23 March 1710.
He married, firstly, Lady Honora Bourke, daughter of William Bourke, 7th Earl of Clanricarde and Ellen McCarty, on 26 March 1695 at St. Germain-en-Laye, France. He married, secondly, Anne Bulkeley, daughter of Hon. Henry Bulkeley and Sophia Stuart, on 18 April 1700 at Paris, France.
He fought in the Siege of Philippsburg and was killed in action on 12 June 1734.

8. Henry FITZJAMES, Duke of Albemarle was born on 6 Aug 1673 in St. James Square, Westminster, Middlesex, England. He d.s.p.m. on 16 Dec 1702. Bagnols, Languedoc, France. He m. Marie Gabrielle d’Audibert, daughter of Jean d’Audibert, Comte de Lussan and Marie Françoise Raimond, on 20 July 1700.
He fought in the Battle of Boyne in 1690. In 1695 he was attainted. He was created 1st Baron of Romney 1st Earl of Rochford, and 1st Duke of Albemarle by his father King James II on 13 January 1696.

i. Cristine Marie Jacqueline Henriette FitzJames, b. posthumously on 29 May 1703 at Bagnols, Languedoc, France. She became a nun.
9. James Francis Stuart-FitzJames-Stuart, Duke of Berwick, 2nd Duque de Liria y Xerica, b. 21 Oct 1696, d. 2 Jun 1738. Married 31 Dec 1716 Catalina Ventura Colón de Portugal, Duquesa de Veraguas y de la Vega.
