Arms: Sable, a fess wavy between two stars Argent.
Crest: Upon the terrestrial globe a ship under sail drawn round the same
with golden hawsers by a hand appearing from clouds proper, and in the ship a
dragon Gules, its wings spread, looking towards the hand, motto: Auxilio
Divino.
Motto: Sic parvis magna.
These are the arms granted Sir Francis Drake in 1581, and the fact there was a new grant suggests he either was not previously armigerous or that the heralds did not accept his assertion that he was. There was much controversy about this.
