Arms: Argent a chevron Purpure between three halberts Sable.
These arms were sometimes borne by the Drakes of Ashe, probably in the 14th-15th century. This coat is also attributed to the Symonds family of Devon, so there was possibly a family connection at one time. The Drakes of Ashe may have used this coat during the time a senior branch of the Drake family persisted in central Devon. There may also be a symbolic reference to properties in the Axe River area. The axe survived to appear later in the crest of the Drakes of Ashe.
